When your Ford comes to the end of its life, we will accept it free of charge when delivered to one of the appointed take back facilities (Authorised Treatment Facility or ATF). We are working in partnership with ELVES (ELV Environmental Services CLG) to provide this service, in strict accordance with the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive (2000/53/EC) (transposed into Irish law as the European Union (End-of-Life Vehicles) Regulations 2014 as amended).
The End of Life Vehicles Directive
Introduced in 2007, the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive (2000/53/EC) requires manufacturers to meet all or a significant part of the cost of processing End-of-Life vehicles with nil or negative market value for all vehicles of their brand(s). Manufacturers and their contracted partners must also reach strict reuse, recovery and recycling targets – 85% of vehicle weight as of 2006 and 95% from 2015.
On behalf of the motor industry, and with approval under the ELV Regulations, ELVES operates as the compliance scheme for the Irish vehicle sector. The ELVES Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) Network meets Ford quality standards for the receipt, treatment and recovery to the requirements set out in the ELV Regulations, ensuring state of the art care for customers in the process.

Provided your Ford meets the following conditions, we will accept it when delivered to one of our appointed Authorised Treatment Facilities at no cost to yourself.

Billions of batteries that are thrown away each year contain valuable resources.
That’s why Ford and its Dealers are always working to help reduce the environmental impact of batteries by organising collection systems or producing and designing batteries that are more recyclable and contain fewer toxic materials in the first place.
Today, over 90% of lead acid batteries are recycled, typically for remanufacturing or reprocessing, and each EU Market has its own collection system to minimise environmental impact.
How to dispose of your Fords battery?
All Ford Dealers provide a battery collection system on behalf of its customers. On replacement of your Ford vehicles battery, the Ford Dealer carrying out the replacement will ethically dispose of your used battery.

Every year, more than 3 million tonnes of used tyres are generated in the European Union. 2.5 million tonnes of these are either recycled or recovered.
Most EU manufacturers have adopted a legal framework that means the tyre manufacturers or importers are responsible for collecting unwanted tyres.
How to dispose of tyres?
Tyres will be disposed of at a cost of €2.80 per tyre, whatever their brand as all Ford Dealers provide this service for customers when replacing their vehicle’s tyres through their service and parts departments.

What is an End of Life Vehicle (ELV)?
End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) are motor vehicles that are categorised as waste. Their components and materials are also classed as waste. Waste is anything that you discard, intend to discard or are required to discard. This includes material sent for recycling or recovery.
All provisions of the End-of-Life Vehicle Regulations apply to all cars and light goods vehicles that have a maximum of 9 seats and weigh up to 3,500kg.

What are the conditions?
ELVES will accept end-of-life vehicles when delivered to one of their appointed take-back facilities which meet the following conditions:
The vehicle is a passenger vehicle (M1) or lights good vehicle (N1) with a maximum of nine seats and weighs 3.5 tonnes or less
What documents should I take with me? What documents will be issued?
You are required to take proof of vehicle ownership with you as well as personal identification when taking your vehicle to an Authorised Treatment Facility.
When you deposit your vehicle at an ATF you should be issued with a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). This marks your vehicle as scrapped on the National Vehicle and Driver File (NVDF) and ends your responsibility for the vehicle.
A CoD can be issued online with a copy being posted to you within a few days by the Department of Transport or issued in paper format at the ATF. You can find out more about CoDs and what they look like at the ELVES.
If you have more than three whole calendar months remaining on your tax disc and your annual motor tax is over €119 you can claim a motor tax refund (Form RF120).
What happens at the Authorised Treatment Facility or ATF?
Once a CoD has been issued, the vehicle will be depolluted removing liquids, tyres and other hazardous materials.
The ATF may then remove parts that are sold for reuse or other materials that can be sent for recycling separately.
The body shell will be crushed and compacted and recycling recovery processes will follow.
