Headlight Adjustment
If you're adding extra weight to the rear of your vehicle, such as hauling a trailer or boat, it may make your headlamps appear unlevel and that might mean you'll have to readjust them.
Before you start you will need:
- a tape measure
- some tape
- a Philips screwdriver
You will need to park about 25 feet from a garage door or a wall with the headlamps aimed at it.
To measure where your lamps should be aimed:
- measure from the ground to the little mark at the centre of the lamp
- place tape on the wall at that same height
- if you have HID lamps (VOL), you want the top of the beam to be about two inches below the tape mark you made
- if you have halogen lamps (VOR) the top of the beam should be right on your tape mark
If you're not sure what type of lights you have look for the VOL or VOR mark on your lamps
If you need to make adjustments:
- open the bonnet to access the adjusters on the headlamps
- with your screwdriver twist each one until the beams are at the right level
Remember to leave the marks on the door or wall so that you can readjust the lights back when you need to
