What are Software Updates?
Software Updates provide your Ford with the latest software and features. The updates will be installed over-the-air on your vehicle through either a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Software Updates deliver regular vehicle enhancements to Ford owners, turning connected vehicle learnings into continuous improvements, new features and capabilities.
If your vehicle has FordPass Connect*, then it can connect to the cloud. Software Updates are downloaded via the cloud, or over Wi-Fi if a known network is available.
How long do the updates take to install?
Smaller updates take less than two minutes and will be installed in the background while you're driving. However, some (inhibit) updates require the vehicle to be turned off. Larger updates that require your vehicle to be turned off can take up to 30 minutes. Within this state the vehicle can neither be accessed nor started and the installation can not be interrupted. You can schedule these (inhibit) updates at a time that suits you.
